In a fine casting for this year’s Ireland’s Dumbest Criminal competition, a bungling car thief has been caught on camera knocking himself out after an attempt to break into a Mercedes witnessed the brick he was using rebound off the car’s window and hit him square in the face.
The thief was captured on CCTV outside Pheasant Bar pub in Drogheda attempting to break into the car for almost half an hour before shattering his hopes, and not the window’s glass, with the help of the brick.
After initial attempts to break into the car by throwing stones failed, he determined something a bit thicker was needed.
Providing it one last big effort, the criminal is seen hurling a brick at the driver’s window from just a duo of metres away.
However, instead of the brick smashing the window as hoped, it rebounds back off the window and flies straight into the man’s face, knocking him to the ground. According to the pub’s proprietor Gerry Brady, he was the very first to spot the unconscious man on the road and instantly assumed that he had been the victim of a hit-and-run.
Attempting to be helpful, he suggested to ring the police and ambulance.
Mr Brady quickly became suspicious tho’, when the thief refused his help and his wifey spotted harm to the paint work of Mr Brady’s brand fresh Mercedes.
When he attempted to call the police, Mr Brady said that the thief then attempted to blackmail him.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Mr Brady said: “He pulled himself up and said he dreamed €50 for a taxi
“I said, ‘Not a chance, I’ve to pay for a fresh window, mate.
“That’s when he leaned in and told me he’d burn me out of the pub.”
Escaping to a nearby petrol station Mr Brady was eventually able to contact the police, who he said found the incident very amusing.
“You should have heard (them) laughing when they witnessed the movie,” Brady said.
“They were in stitches.”
The police arrested a man, and the investigation is ongoing.
Since being uploaded onto YouTube for the very first time in January, the hilarious movie has seen over 2million people view the “Thick with a Brick’s” hilarious attempt at stealing Mr Brady’s car.
