Maruti S-Cross Review

The premium vehicle segment in India is growing on an alarming rate, with people preferring spending a few more rupees for better, safe and well-equipped cars. The introduction of fresh technologies into the automobile market has enhanced the competition inbetween various brands for a better price for a premium feature on their car. Maruti Suzuki has also entered the segment with their premium crossover, the S-Cross. Priced from INR 8,34,000 for the DDiS200 and INR 11,99,000 for the DDiS320, the S-Cross is surely something fresh from the manufacturer.

The car is said to be an exception of the Maruti Suzuki’s traditional point of view for Indian cars which makes it an attractive product with a bunch of fresh things we never had from the company. The only factor which makes it shine lesser than usual is the launch of Honda Jazz and Hyundai Creta before its entry into the Indian market, which surely will decrease the numbers. Let`s see what is has to suggest above all the others present on the battlefield.

Exterior

The design of the S-Cross stays the same as its international version. It clearly shows the evolution from the very first generation of SX4 sedan and feels quiet effortless on the aggression point of view of the current crossovers. The front houses a not so good and not so bad looking twin lined chrome grill.

Truly telling, the fog lamp outlines are better looking than the headlight’s LED light design and the skid plate suits the slick looking cladding on the front. The headlight seems odd in the current time, with the other brands having much acute and clever treatment to the lights. The fetish mask looks vapid and overall looks are just average. Rear lights are exceptional when compared to the other designing on the car. If looks are your preference, you won’t be sated for sure.

Interior

The best part from Maruti Suzuki comes under this section of the car. The best interior which could have been provided by Maruti Suzuki till date comes in the S-Cross. The leather-full treatment would be appreciated by most of its customers and the premium word starts fulfilling its definition as soon as you inject the car. From your very first look to the last, the car seems to be fully loaded with technology on each phase.

Old Maruti Suzuki fellows may also get mistaken as if it`s truly a Maruti, but the Suzuki symbol pridefully rests on the center of the leather bathed steering wheel, making us reminisce that the times have switched. Everything has been automated by the company, defining the premium tag they have given to its car. Black is all around on the highest trim, making it the best looking interior from Maruti Suzuki.

Instrument Console

The console on the fresh S-Cross features technology loaded analogue and digital cluster. The left side has the tachometer, with a puny analog temperature whereas the right comes with a speedometer with the fuel gauge. The needle magic has been improved with the blue lining around the circles, making it much more attractive than before. The center houses a display, which comes with numerous information modes like instant fuel economy, average fuel economy, excursion distance, odometer, clock and outside temperature. Both the engines being diesel powered make the console same for both the variants.

Infotainment System

The part where Maruti Suzuki lacked the most seems to be a strong part in their premium S-Cross. The car features a fully touchscreen Smartplay infotainment system which comes with a 6-speaker system on the fresh S-Cross. The unit features touch sensitive buttons on both of its sides for volume, power, settings and home. The unit also comes with navigation, AUX, USB and smartphone integration. A total utility package is ensured by Maruti Suzuki with their premium cars and S-Cross has embarked a fresh way of life.

Engine & Spectacle

The S-Cross is suggested in two different engine sizes, named as the DDiS 200 and DDiS 320. Both the numbers denote the torque figure developed by the respective engines. The very first one is the 1.Trio liter familiar diesel motor found in every Suzuki diesel car in India. The motor produces 88.8 BHP @ four thousand rpm and two hundred NM @ one thousand seven hundred fifty rpm.

The engine is mated to the traditional 5-speed manual gearbox. The 2nd engine is again a Fiat sourced motor, 1.6 L with 118 BHP and three hundred twenty NM of torque. This version comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. The AWD and automatic gearbox option has not been mentioned by Maruti Suzuki. Both the engines are trusted units with a lot of practicality as both comeback a company claimed mileage of above twenty kmpl.

Convenience

The convenience of the passengers has been counted very first by the company this time. The car features fully automatic temperature control for better rails in all weather conditions. It comes with a lot of legroom, which has been missing in most of the Maruti Suzuki offerings till date. Ingress and Egress is very effortless for the fresh S-Cross, raising its practical abilities.

The electrically fold-able and adjustable outside mirrors adds to the charm with its all electrified windows. The car comes with rear wiper and washer, with defogger for ease in rainy seasons. All the features have been integrated into the steering wheel and the S-Cross also features cruise control for better and convenient railing. The armrests for both the seats make it feel premium and this time, the list has been improved very effectively by the company.

Safety

The safety factor gets an update too this time. The car comes with front and rear disc brakes for better braking and enhanced safety is added by the provision of Six pack to it. S-Cross comes with dual front airbags for improved safety in the times of collision. The parking sensors and switch sides parking camera makes it effortless to manoeuvre in taut spaces and a better 205/60-16 tyres have been provided for a better grip on road. These features add up to the peace of mind of passengers and the car proves its practicality once again.

Variants and Shades

The car comes with a fresh naming strategy from Maruti Suzuki, naming the vehicle as Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha instead of the LDi, VDi and ZDi. The fresh S-Cross comes in eight variants, with five belonging to the DDiS 200 family and three to the DDiS 320 family. Sigma model comes with a Sigma (O) model also, both of which are available in the 1.Three L engine variant only. The shades available in the premium crossover are Blue, Grey, Silver, Brown and White. The cladding remains common on all the shades.

Ex-showroom Price

The fresh S-Cross is embarking from INR 8,34,000 and go a long way up to INR 13,74,000 out of which the DDiS320 engine starts at INR 11,99,000. The top variant of the three hundred twenty family (Alpha) is the most spectacle and feature loaded version of the car with the two hundred Alpha being the most economical and feature loaded option. The car has made its way on the 5th August 2015. It will be only available through Nexa showrooms, making its availability limited to certain points of sale originally.
